Getting the Most Out of a Smooth Yoga Class
True Alisandre (4/18/04)
Each time we participate in
any type of movement class, we have a chance to refocus our
lives in a much more conscious way. At some point in our human
journey we get the picture that we must take charge of the many
choices before us, and let the higher energies in us, unfold
through us. Just focusing your attention in one of my vinyasa
(smooth moving) classes, isn’t enough, you must be committed to
picking out a couple or even just one pose to practice during
the week, and really get the feeling what it’s all about for
you. When you set aside some quiet times to get into your yoga
practice in your own home, and begin integrating those graceful
moves into your every day movement repertoire, you’ll have made
the first big step to making yoga your lifestyle, not just a
workout routine!
The
attendance at class once or twice a week is a great start, and
yet the real change and benefit to you will commence only when
one morning you finally decide to get up a few minutes early and
stretch out right there on your own bedroom or living room
floor. You’ll be amazed how the starting of a day with yoga, if
only 10 minutes, is far superior to monitoring the type of food
you put into your mouth. The movement style that carries you
through your day has far-reaching ramifications; from preventing
a potential accident, to emitting some peaceful vibrations into
your environment where stress might be reaching a 10+ for every
one around you. You and your yogic stream of energy could be
what makes the needed difference and in short order too!
Think not that without a
full hour to ‘do yoga,’ you won’t benefit from the gentle
unwinding guaranteed in this practice. I’ve found that even 5
minutes performing a well-executed Sun Salutation, or Action
Pose, has altered my repetitive motion stress by a long shot for
the key stressing moments in that day. With no time on your
hands to spare even 5 minutes, you can surely take time out for
a 30 second – 1 minute mini-breath stretch. Each
of my classes features at least one of these for you to take
home and use. These powerful, personally researched explorations
are really consolidations from my 30+ years of teaching yoga and
performing individual massage sessions. They’re guaranteed to
address a whole range of physical, mental, emotional and
spiritual issues. For a sample from my forthcoming book:

practically show you that you can spare the few minutes for some
real yoga motions. I’m True Movement at your
