Weekly Yoga Inspiration:

As you
prepare to perform a series of stretches from my Smooth
Yoga system, or just decide to "stretch out" in
your own chosen style, I suggest that you 'get present'
first!
By
"getting present," I mean drawing your attention into
the present moment, or present time frame. To put your mind
in the present means that you have to "withdraw it" from the
past and future time orientations.
As you
choose to 'be present' while you are going through your
various stretches with simultaneous breaths, you will have a
much greater chance of shifting out of past movement
habits, and unfolding into some more stress-free motion
choices.
While
you are responding to life with automatic, unconscious
movements (often based on purely emotional reactions,) you
minimize the joy you are able to experience.
Ok, so
you may be thinking: How do I choose
to "Return to the Present," & let getting
back to the future wait a while?
One proven method is to
point your minds' attention to the physical act of
breathing, & in specific to your exhalation. This simple
focus can help you "blow off" in seconds your
pestering past preoccupations.
Try to breathe out with
some subtle or very obvious sound or noticeable physical
sensation coming from your mouth. Then hold your body and
mind empty for a few seconds, and finally let a new breath
surge in. Receiving this breath of fresh air
easily, will insure that you are indeed present for those
few seconds. Now, as you go about your stretches, continue
to retune your mind to The Incredible Exhale or
Taking It Easy (T.I.E.) breath, & you're
home free.
